National Stone Centre

Crich Stand
This is perhaps the most famous landmark in Derbyshire and is situated over 340 metres above sea level. The Stand is the memorial of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, dedicated to the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment and the Mercian Regiment. The spiral staircase with fifty-eight steps takes the visitor to the viewing gallery from where, on clear days, visitors can pick out 7 counties and various landmarks over the surrounding countryside.

Caudwell’s Mill at Rowsley
Caudwell’s Mill is a unique, Grade II* listed, historic, water turbine powered, roller flour mill. Powered by water from the river Wye, one or more mills have stood on this site for at least 400 years. The present mill was built in 1874 by John Caudwell and run as a family business for over a century, before closing in 1978.
Chatsworth House
Chatsworth House is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and has been passed won through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. You can explore the house, the gardens, the farmyard and playground. There are also restaurants, cafes, gift shops and an estate farm shop to visit.

White Peak Distillery, Ambergate
White Peak Distillery is Derbyshire’s first full scale craft spirits distillery. Whisky is it core focus – White Peak launched its first single malt ‘Wire Works Whisky’ in February 2022. The location of the Distillery has a rich history, from being the royal hunting grounds of Edmund Crouchback in the Middle Ages to being owned by industrialists in the 19th century. Heritage Centre at St John’s Chapel, Belper
Reflecting the history and cultural past of Belper, The Heritage Centre is located in St Johns Chapel is the oldest building in Belper. The Heritage Centre contains an exhibition of artifacts and old photographs of Belper mounted by Belper Historical Society, illustrating aspects of the history of the town. Derby River Boat
You can board the Derby Riverboat at Phoenix Green in Derby and set off on a 45 minute return trip up river to Darley Abbey. It has an electric lift to allow passengers in wheel chairs to use the boat. Derby Gaol
The old “Derby Gaol” can be found under numbers 50 and 51 Friargate in Derby. It is said to be one of the most haunted spots in the country. The jail (“gaol” is an old-fashioned variant of the word) was used between 1756 and 1828 and was originally (it’s believed) two separate cell blocks – in fact, it’s thought the facilities could continue under neighbouring properties, too).
It is now a museum and much of the jail has been restored to its former condition.
