The only World Heritage Site in the East Midlands offers diverse opportunities for learning for both primary and secondary – from industrial and built heritage, engineering and local history to landscape, geology and biodiversity, there is something for everyone. Along the whole Derwent Valley Mills there are short and long term projects, day visits led around the world’s first factories, mills and their communities. A chance to learn about how cotton was spun, discover how water power was harnessed in the past and is still used in today’s hydro power schemes and much more. You and your pupils can be inspired and learn about the ground breaking design, architecture, construction and engineering that took place along the valley and learn about its ‘outstanding universal value’ to humanity and why is was listed as a World Heritage Site.
