Projects to Conserve or Restore
Projects to conserve or restore the built and natural heritage of the Lower Derwent Valley thus helping to preserve this unique landscape. This involved:
- Improving and restoring habitats such as woodlands, meadows and water bodies
- Creating new habitats
- Improving historical built structures including dry stone walls and field barns
- Restoring iconic views from historic buildings and places within the landscape and help people to understand why these views are important
The projects are loosely split into three areas; natural, landscape and cultural heritage, to meet the National Lottery Heritage Fund criteria. However as the scheme evolved we found that many of the themes overlapped and encouraged the Partnership to consider the landscape more holistically.
“Heritage shapes our identities and enriches the quality of our lives. Our heritage is our birth right, inherited from past generations, preserved in the present and bestowed to future generations to come.”
