This teacher’s pack was compiled to compliment the QCA History Units numbers 11 and 12, ‘What was it like for children living in Victorian Britain?’ and, ‘How did life change in our locality in Victorian times?’
The pack is called ‘What was the impact of the factory system and the building of the cotton mills on the working lives of men, women and children living in the Derwent Valley in the past?’ It takes students through the early development of the factory system which began in the Derwent Valley and which was developed by Sir Richard Arkwright.
The pack includes lesson plans and resources and activity sheets as well as suggestions for fieldwork visits to the various mill sites along the valley.
